The captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, Monkey D. Luffy is the protagonist of the One Piece series. Because he has eaten a Devil Fruit, the Gomu Gomu no Mi, a.k.a. the Gum Gum Fruit, Luffy's body has gained elasticity powers, allowing him to stretch his body at long distances like rubber. In addition to his powers, he is incredibly strong, fast and durable. His goal is to find the treasure known as the One Piece and to become the Pirate King. Though he is usually unintelligent, he has a fearless good heart. He is carefree, happy-go-lucky with a great ambitions and a huge appetite. He usually gets hungry and wants to eat food right away. He is a very loyal captain, willing to risk his life for the sake of his crew/friends. As the story goes on, Luffy learns to use Haki, a mysterious power that is found in every living being in the world. There are three types and he becomes one of the people who can use all three of them. It is revealed that Luffy is the son of the Revolutionary Leader, Monkey D. Dragon.
My thoughts
One Piece's answer to Dragon Ball Z's Goku, Luffy is a very powerful boy who may look little, but he actually has big dreams. I like his character and personality, mainly because he's always positive and happy no matter how serious some scenes may be throughout the series. He's very humorous as well with his habit of eating a huge amount of food, and like me, his favourite is meat, and he's always being the first to move forward before thinking. He's like an "actor before a thinker" type person, for myself I can relate to that, and the fact that he's always amazed by something. He's made a very impressive improvement in power from his training within the 2 year time skip. He's getting stronger and more dangerous than ever. His design, clothing and appearance are simple, yet amazing to look at as well. His improvised fighting style and powers are awesome and hilarious to watch as well. In my opinion, he is one of the best characters ever to exist in both manga and anime. Gotta love him. "Gomu Gomu no... Jet GATLING!!!", one of his best moves ever.

2) Sanji

The lover chef of the Straw Hat Pirates, Sanji is one of the main characters of One Piece. Knowing what it's like to starve from his personal experience, he never refuses any person a meal. He's also a very powerful fighter, who mainly uses kicks in his style that resembles Capoeira. His goal is to find the All Blue, a sea of legend where every fish in the world are contained, and to go there is the ultimate dream for every chef, especially for Sanji himself. He is quite the lady's man, flirting around with attractive women, to the point of having a heart show up one of his eyes. He is attracted to beautiful women, especially Nami and Robin. Because of his highly strong sense of chivalry, he refuses to hit a girl, even if he dies.
My thoughts
NAMI-SWAAAAAN!!! ROBIN-CHWAAAAAN!!! Lol, what an awesome and hilarious at the same time character. Sanji is one of the coolest characters of One Piece in my opinion. He's very unique, because of the fact that he likes girls to the point that he tries to be nice to them all the time, which shows a high sense of chivalry. Sanji represents that you should be nice to women, and not harm any of them, no matter what, which kind of resembles the Australian commercial ad I see on TV with the "Violence against Women? Australia says no!". I like his kicking fighting style as well. It resembles a martial arts styles like Taekwondo and Capoeira, and his Diable Jambe adds a unique spin to his moves. He is an amazing chef and he likes to cook foods that taste great, which for myself I can relate to. He's looking very cool and has improved quite a lot along with the Straw Hats within the 2 year time skip. In conclusion, Sanji is an awesome lover-cook and an amazingly powerful fighter of One Piece, and funny as hell as well.

3) Roronoa Zoro

The first member to join the Straw Hats, Roronoa Zoro is the crew's swordsman. He is an incredibly powerful swordsman who uses the Santoryu, or the Three Sword Style, using 2 swords and 1 sword in his mouth. He trains everyday non-stop in order to reach a goal which he promised to fulfill for his childhood friend and rival, to become the world's greatest swordsman. In order to do that, he must defeat Dracule Mihawk, the current "World's Greatest Swordsman" and a Shichibukai member. Though he is a very serious man about achieving his goals, he sleeps a lot wherever he goes and his biggest problem, especially to his crewmates, is his poor sense of direction. Because of his lack of orientation, he gets lost easily.
My thoughts
Zoro is a one baddass samurai pirate of One Piece to be the 2nd most dangerous Strawhat after Luffy, and very unique, since he fights with not just two swords, but one more in his mouth. And not to mention, when he does a move called Asura, he gives out the illusion that he's using nine swords. You can't get any awesome than that if you're practicing weaponry.. As a character, Zoro is usually a very serious man, willing to help Luffy achieve his goals, while training non-stop and fighting tough guys to achieve his own, though there are times when he can be a complete brute, getting lost easily, and on most occasions, be hilarious. He has the most tolerance to pain than any of the Strawhats, even Luffy, since he was willing to take in all of Luffy's pain and still survive with a lot of blood loss. I got to say, that's seriousness, loyalty, determination and dedication right there, and I think Zoro possesses those qualities. It's also cool to see that he still has his poor sense of direction, but still he's heck strong in the time skip. Definitely one of my favourite characters for sure.

4) Whitebeard (Edward Newgate)

Captain of the Whitebeard Pirates, One of the Yonko (The Four Emperors), and a rival of Gol D. Roger before his execution, Edward Newgate, who is mostly known as Whitebeard, is considered "The World's Strongest Man". Having consumed the Gura Gura no Mi, Whitebeard has the power to create shockwaves that can travel through the ground, the sea, and even the air. Because of this ability, it is said that Whitebeard has the power to destroy the world, as evidence that he was able to wreck up an island. While many pirates care about finding treasure, Whitebeard cared about having a family, which was the result of his crewmembers calling him "Oyaji", which could mean in Japanese, father or old man. He died in the battle at Marineford, trying to rescues Ace. Though dead, his body was still standing. Though he had a huge amount of injuries, when his coat fell off, his back was revealed to not have been scarred, as he never ran away, not just from Marineford, but from his whole life as a pirate.
My thoughts
The one pirate you don't want to mess with if you actually see him in real life, Whitebeard is an extremely powerful pirate, despite his old age and sickness. I like how he doesn't give a damn about authority and like how strong his opponents are. Whitebeard is freaking strong, taking out a huge number of Marine soldiers and giants and wrecked up an island when he was rescuing Ace at Marineford. Watch the episodes of that part in the nime and you'll se what I'm talking about. Iin my opinion, Whitebeard is like the Optimus Prime of One Piece, obviously, because he's the biggest and tallest of his crew, incredibly powerful, very Hulk-like, when he got pissed off at Akainu for killing Ace (one of the most dramatic and tragic moments), and another strikingly ironic, yet awesome thing about him is that he forgave a member of his crew who stabbed him and still loved him, being like a father to his crew. Whitebeard is an awesome character whether you like him or not, and he can kick your ass no matter how many men you have on your side. Why? BECAUSE HE'S WHITEBEARD!!!

5) Portgas D. Ace

Former captain of Spade Pirates, and currently the 2nd division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, Ace is the older brother of Luffy, eventually to be discovered that it's through adoption. He is also revealed to be the son of the Pirate King himself, Gol D. Roger. Ace ate the Mera Mera no Mi (Flame-Flame Fruit), a Logia type fruit which grants him the ability to control and become the element of fire. Even though he was very hostile towards Luffy for being persistent in trying to follow and chase him during their time in the forest and whenever he (Luffy) cried, Ace begins to care and worry a lot about Luffy, due to his recklessness. He would often fall asleep whenever he eats food. He was killed in Marineford saving Luffy from the most ruthless Admiral out of the 3 Marine Admirals, Akainu, while taking the hit. He smiled as he laid dead in front of Luffy.
My thoughts
Ace, to me, is considered the leaner, smarter and the "Mr. Nice Guy" version of Luffy.His first appearance was cool, yet hilarious as well when he ate and ran at Drum Island when he was looking for Luffy. It was also funny seeing Ace and Smoker taking a hit from luffy and falling through building blocks. I called Ace the "Mr. Nice Guy", because he apologises to people when he interrupts their meal time, or when he barges in parties just to eat and he's usually being nice to a lot of people, especially to his enemies. Him eating the Mera Mera no Mi and becoming fire suits his personality as well. Like Luffy, he's reckless and he's a very tough guy to never back down and run away. When he performed his Dai Enkai: Entei technique, it was like pulling off a fiery Spirit Bomb. It was awesome to see him in action such as when he blow a couple of ships down with his Hiken, and his fight with Blackbeard and at Marineford were some of the best moments about Ace. It was also very dramatic when he died saving Luffy. Looking at before he died, Ace is a very cool brother for Luffy. His appearance, hat, personality and powers are awesome to see in action. RIP Ace. You'll never be forgotten.

6) Boa Hancock
The only female of the Shichibukai, and the current empress of the Kuja Pirates, Boa Hancock is considered to be the most beautiful woman in the woman. Hancock eventually falls in love with Luffy to the point that she usually daydreams about him, especially when she dreamt about marrying Luffy and another one where the two go on a honeymoon. Because of her feelings for Luffy, she tends to shy away and not look at her and blushes, and it also was the result of protecting him, to the point that she stopped a Marine Commodore Smoker, and the Marines from attacking Luffy, which made people thinking that she's turning against the World Government. She has eaten the Mero Mero no Mi, granting her the ability to turn anyone to stone should they have any dirty thoughts or emotions of lust.
My thoughts
Hancock, my favourite female character of One Piece. She's good looking, incredibly strong, and she is freaking hilarious as well, especially the way she looks down on people by pointing at them, and at the same time, moving her head up and looking up. Being an empress, she like doesn't give a care about the wrong she's done, and she usually says she'd be forgiven, because she's beautiful. What a hot, yet funny girl. It's very romantic, yet very hilarious how she falls in love with Luffy, while tending to hide her feelings away from him, even though he's not aware of it. She seems to care a lot about him and very loyal to him as she would do anything she can to help Luffy on his goals, as shown when she protected him from incoming attackers, even though she'd turn herself against the World Government. She seems to be based on the Medusa from Greek mythology, seeing as when people look at her or think dirty about her, she uses her ability to petrify them. Boa Hancock is one of the coolest characters of One Piece, with an awesome fighting ability, personality and appearance. Mero Mero Mellow, one of her coolest moves in my opinion.

7) Dracule Mihawk

A Shichibukai member, Dracule Mihawk, the current title holder of the World's Greatest Swordsman. Given his nickname Hawk Eyes, he has a very excellent eyesight, as he was able to track down Gear 2nd Luffy's movements and attack with great precision. His main weapon is the Kokuto Yoru, the strongest sword in the world of One Piece. It is a long black sword, which is taller than Mihawk himself, which has a long bar between the blade and a long hilt, making the sword look like a cross. He can not only deflect bullets, but can also change their course direction with his sword. By slashing with the Kokuto Yoru, he can produce energy that can go long distances, sending waves at an opponent with perfect accuracy and has enough power to slice a huge chunk of a frozen tsunami.
My thoughts
My favourite Shichibukai, despite putting Hancock one rank above him, while the Shichibukai are ruthless and show no honour, Mihawk is the most serious guy of them all and hardly smiles at all, and he's one of the few besides Bartholomew Kuma and Jinbei, who show respect and honour. If you search him up at the One Piece wikia website, unless you're smart to know already, and I never knew before till I searched it, he's sort of based on Count Dracula, due to his name, his appearance, and the fact that he lives in a castle alone on a spooky island. This guy is awesome IMO. His clothes are very cool and his long sword reminds of Guts from Berserk. The way he swings it and cuts down a frozen tsunami was among the most amazing things about him. Another thing is that he could make an idiot out of you with a little knife. He was very suitable to teach Zoro within the two years, and I hope they'll fight in the future. Dracule Mihawk is among my favourite One Piece characters of all time. His appearance, clothing style, personality, and abilities all sum up his coolness.

Nami is the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates. She is also a cartographer, and very knowledgeable about the weather. Along with Robin, she is considered the smartest Straw Hat. Nami is usually the one who bosses the Straw Hats around, even Luffy despite being a captain himself. Prior to meeting Luffy in East Blue, she loathed pirates, due to losing her adopted mother from one and only thought of them as bad people. She loves money and would do anything to gain a huge amount of wealth, hilariously whenever she hears about treasure and wealth being nearby, her eyes turn into a Beli symbol. Despite all that, she's still compassionate and cares about the Straw Hat's well being. Her dream is to draw a complete map of the world.
My thoughts
I didn't like her at first, but her storyline, her past and how she came to be what she is now makes me like and respect her more. She's usually the person who keeps the crew intact and on the go, usually by smacking their heads and bossing around. She's like a big sister to them all as Robin is a mother to them. She's very hilarious when it comes to money, and serious at the same time. It was hilarious when she rejected Robin's offer to join the Straw Hats before, only for Robin to get out a bag jewels to make nami accept her, with her money eyes appearing. Although she doesn't look like it, she's still very tough to fight against. With her Clima Tact, she can be very dangerous, and she's like very knowledgeable about what's going on in the One Piece world. She looks better than before in the timeskip and she's improved a lot, and a funny thing that she bought a lot of clothes with a huge discount. Way to go Nami hahahahaha. In closing, she's one of the best look girls in One Piece, and one of the people who care about her crewmates. Her personality, appearance, style, and fighting style are spot on. Surely a very memorable character.

Though he can be a real faker at times, Usopp is the sniper, inventor, artist, cannoneer, and an expert marksman of the Straw Hat Pirates. His name comes from the word "Uso", meaning liar in Japanese, which shows that when he was introduced in One Piece, he was labelled by many people in his hometown as a liar. He is the son of Yasopp, who is an expert marksman, like Usopp, and a member of the Red Hair Pirates, with the captain being Shanks, Luffy's idol. His signature weapon is his Slingshot. Having inherited his father's marksmanship skills, he can shoot an object over long distances with exceptional accuracy. Along with his other arsenals and other inventions, his greatest weapon are his lies. For instance, he would say that he has 8000 men to scare his enemies away, and he splatters himself with a ketchup bomb to trick people into thinking that he's dead, or severely injured. He briefly had an alter-ego named Sogeking.
My thoughts
Usopp, what a funny guy, he turns out to be one of the most hilarious guys in One Piece. He started off as a complete goof-off and a faker, but then you will realise as you watch the series, around the episodes where his first appearance is, you would probably realise that this is how Usopp grew up to be.Though as stated by Oda that he's the weakest Straw Hat, Usopp is still an awesome character around. His use of a slingshot, being a sniper is amazing, given the fact that he doesn't use a gun like his father does. I also like how he gets scared of things easily, and making funny faces whenever something happens. Sogeking was an awesome addition to Usopp's persona, and FREAKING hilarious that he has his own theme song been played out during the Enies Lobby saga. Usopp may be a liar at first, but even a million lies could be turned into a single truth. Usopp is a great character whether you like him or not. And He's better in the two year skip in my opinion.

10) Nico Robin

Formerly a member of Baroque Works, working with Crocodile, Robin is the archaeologist of the Strawhat Pirates. She comes from a long gone island called Ohara, a place which primarily consists or archaeologists, who dedicated themselves to study the past, which led to their fates against the World Government, ever since her escape from Ohara, she's been on a run from the World Government for over 20 years, which was a result of her, at 8 years old, getting a bounty of 79,000,000 Beli, because she was considered a "Demon Child" of the Oharans. She ate the Hana Hana no Mi, granting her the ability to sprout multiple body parts on any surface including the user's own body.
My thoughts
The most intelligent of the Straw Hat, Robin is like the most mysterious member of the crew. She was a very good bad girl during her time as a Baroque Works member, then she became a lot better in the two year skip than ever. Her background story seems to be one of the most dramatic and tragic out of all the Straw Hats. Nami's, Chopper's and Brooks are sad and dramatic as well. She must've done some crazy stuff to get an extremely high bounty. Being on the run for a long time, she must've brought a lot of trouble, well, she did, by being the only survivor of her homeland. She is a very cunning and very sneaky, usually getting away from Nami's usual bossy attitude, mainly cause Robin's a girl, and she almost knew what she needed to make different groups accept, as an example, upon being interviewed by Usopp for her joining in the Straw Hats, she just brought out a bag of jewels to get Nami to accept her. Along with Nami, she's like the mother to the Straw Hats, always caring for their safety. Nico Robin is one of the coolest female characters of One Piece. Her powers, clothing, appearance and personality are well played. I hope she doesn't grab my groin LOLOL!
